Celebrating Over 30 Years
Ladies Time Out (LTO) in Springbank, with members from all around Springbank, Calgary and the surrounding area, is a group of ladies that meet Monday mornings at Eden Brook’s Reception Centre to visit, exercise, take classes and meet new people! Our classes run from 9:00 – 11:00 AM. The coffee and snack bar offer up hot beverages and tasty treats, offering childcare for those with small children, and a wide variety of classes that is sure to interest everyone! Even if you are not enrolled in a class you are welcome to join our “Coffee & Friends” group who visit, work on their own project or play games.
From Humble Beginnings
Back in 1981, Brenda Watson, a resident of the Springbank community, wanted to organize some activities for Springbank mothers with young children. Brenda was looking for a way to meet other Springbank mothers, attend interesting classes, have her children nearby, and not have to leave Springbank to do it! She gathered up a few of her friends and together they formed the Springbank Ladies Time Out at the United Church.
It was the perfect solution for this community. There were many classes, such as art, knitting, crocheting, breadmaking, and cooking. Many of the ladies teaching these classes were the older Springbank residents who were original settlers to the area. It was a great opportunity to pass on the tradition and culture of one generation to the next, while fostering a true sense of community spirit.
This tradition continues on and has grown in its scope of gathering women together from Springbank, Calgary, and the surrounding area to learning new things and meet new or old friends. We look forward to welcoming new members and hope you find this upcoming session of classes unique, interesting , and fun!
